Potential Side Effects of Tramadol Usage

Tramadol is a medication used for treating moderate to severe pain, and provides great relief to those suffering from persistent pain in the body. However, there are a few side effects of Tramadol that its users should be aware of, and a doctor should be consulted about potential risks before taking Tramadol.

Some of the common side effects are not overly dangerous, but a doctor should be consulted if the problems persist or are too intense to allow for normal daily living. Some common side effects include:

Diarrhea or constipation - These are on opposite sides of the bowel spectrum, but both can manifest themselves when taking Tramadol.

Loss of appetite or nausea - This can go hand in hand with diarrhea and constipation, and is one of the more common side effects that should be reported to the doctor if it persists for more then a couple days.

Dizziness or Drowsiness - This is common for any strong pain reliever, and, if experiencing these symptoms, one should be sure to avoid driving or other potentially dangerous activities.

Insomnia - Even if one experiences drowsiness, they may find they are unable to fall asleep. Insomnia can sometimes be relieved by maintaining a regular sleep schedule, avoiding caffeine several hours before bed, and not taking naps during the day.

Blurry Vision - This can often go hand-in-hand with feeling drowsy as things may seem hard to focus on.

Tingling or Warmth - This is especially common in the extremities.

Any of the above side effects are somewhat common, though many users will successfully take Tramadol without experiencing any of them. There are a few rarer, and more dangerous, side effects that can occur. If any of these serious side effects occur, a doctor should be consulted immediately. Some of the rarer side effects include:

Allergic Reactions - An allergic reaction can be potentially deadly. If any swelling, rashes, or difficulty breathing occurs one should call for help immediately.

Extreme Dizziness or Fainting - If extreme dizziness or disorientation occurs it can lead to hallucinations and can even cause a Tramadol user to faint. If this occurs, the Tramadol should immediately be discontinued and a doctor should be called.

Seizures - If a seizure occurs immediate medical help must be acquired.

Skin Conditions -Swelling and redness in the skin is quite a rare side effect, and in some extreme cases can lead to blistering or peeling. Of course, the Tramadol should be discontinued and help should be sought at this point.
